CMS Codes Explained for Your Practice – Part four
CPT CODE 99454: Remotely Monitoring the Data
Fast forward a few weeks and now you have your chronic care patients supplied with connected devices such as smart scales, blood pressure monitors, glucose monitors and oximeters. Each of those patients have received Remote Patient Monitoring training so each patient knows how to use them.
It’s now time to use CPT 99454 for reimbursement for collecting the data.
That’s right. With no additional effort on your part, you are reimbursed because your patients use the connected device daily.
Specifically, the CPT 99454 covers “Remote monitoring of physiologic parameter(s) (eg, weight, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, respiratory flow rate), initial; device(s) supply with daily recording(s) or programmed alert(s) transmission, each 30 days.”
As long as your patient steps on the connected smart scale once a day you will be reimbursed $64 every month for that patient.
If you choose to use multiple devices, your reimbursement is the same. CMS only permits one set of billing codes per patient per month regardless of how many devices they utilize.
As a physician, you know how difficult it is for patients to maintain a daily regimen. Just like with the patient onboarding process, Medek RPM works with your patients to ensure compliance.
