CMS Codes For RPM Explained to Help for Your Practice – Part Four

CPT CODE 99454: Remote Patient Monitoring review of data

Your practice has chosen to develop your RPM and now your chronic care patients are supplied with connected devices such as smart scales, blood pressure monitors, glucose monitors and oximeters. Hopefully, each of those patients have received Remote Patient Monitoring training, from your staff or from an RPM business.  Each patient now knows how to use these medical devices.

It’s now time to use CPT 99454 for reimbursement for collecting the data.

Specifically, the CPT 99454 covers “Remote monitoring of physiologic parameter(s) (eg, weight, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, respiratory flow rate), initial; device(s) supply with daily recording(s) or programmed alert(s) transmission, each 30 days.”

As long as your patient steps on the connected smart scale once a day you will be reimbursed $64 every month for that patient.

It is important to note, that if you choose to use multiple devices, your reimbursement is the same. CMS only permits one set of billing codes per patient per month regardless of how many devices they utilize.
